Annual Meeting & Reception

All are welcome to join the Greenwich Land Trust for a festive evening to celebrate accomplishments from the past year. In 2009, members and friends of GLT enjoyed hearing Daniel C. Esty, the Hillhouse Professor of Environmental Law and Policy at Yale University speak at GLT's Annual Meeting in 2009. In 2007 - 2008, Esty served as an Obama campaign advisor on energy and environmental issues, as a surrogate speaker and debater, and as a member of the Presidential Transition Team. Please check back for information about our 2010 guest speaker. The annual meeting will be held at the Round Hill Club in Greenwich. We look forward to having you join us!

Winter Walk

Crisp and clear blue skies welcomed more than 80 walkers at the Greenwich Land Trust's winter walk in mid-February 2010. Children tracked animals, identified trees and stopped for 'smores and hot cocoa in the expansive meadow nestled within Duck Pond Hill Preserve's 12.4 permanently protected acres.

J.Crew & GLT Shopping and Cocktails

On February 23, J.Crew invited friends and members of the Greenwich Land Trust for a special evening of cocktails and shopping. Supporters enjoyed an exclusive 20% discount on all purchases and 15% of the proceeds from the evening benefited the Greenwich Land Trust. Earth Day Nature Preserve Clean Up Sponsored by Outdoor Traders

Thanks to all who helped make our Earth Day Clean Up event Sponsored by Outdoor Traders a great success.

Bring your children and friends to GLT's afternoon of Earth Day community service and stewardship sponsored by Outdoor Traders (Arch Street, Greenwich). We need many hands to help pick up and dispose of garbage and clear brush. Bring your own work gloves and wear sturdy shoes. This is a great way to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day with your children and grandchildren! The outing will be held rain or shine.

Please park along Old Stone Bridge in Cos Cob (near the intersection of Cat Rock Road). Trash removal will take place along the roadway and in GLT's Old Stone Bridge Nature Preserve.

Stargaze to Celebrate 40 Years of Earth Day

Greenwich Land Trust members and neighbors enjoyed another spectacular stargazing evening with astronomer Rick Bria and friends. Children enjoyed making and eating 'smores! GLT supporters learned about the history of astronomy and viewed the brilliant night sky with local experts. Participants raved about this event for weeks!

Treetops Daffodil Tea & Concert

Treetops Preserve
The Daffodil Tea & Concert has been canceled due to the fact that the Iceland volcano has disrupted one musician's traveling plans. The Treetops Daffodil Tea & Concert is a unique collaboration between the Treetops Chamber Music Society, the Stamford Land Conservation Trust (SLCT) and the GLT will feature violinist Yoon Kwon and pianist Min Kwon in a virtuoso recital program that will benefit all three sponsoring organizations. Treetops is a 94-acre preserve protected in perpetuity thanks to a conservation easement held by the GLT, SLCT and two other groups. Tickets are $100 per person. Spring Walk & Community Celebration

Gildersleeve, Sargent, and Stone Preserves. North Greenwich. Riversville Road.
Join us for a beautiful walk to explore GLT's Gildersleeve, Sargent, and Stone Preserves.  These three preserves add to an extensive greenway in the Byram River watershed in northern Greenwich.  The walk will feature a self-guided natural history tour that was planned by the very creative Jen Deinard and Serena Bechtel.  Catch a glimpse at the aquatic life found on these properties. Midway through the walk, friends and neighbors will gather in the meadow  to enjoy a variety of healthy snacks and children's activities. Bring the whole family! The History of Stone Walls in Greenwich

The Greenwich Land Trust and the Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich joined forces to deliver a fascinating educational program about the historical significance of stone walls in and around Greenwich. And abbreviated version of the lecture can be found in the properties section of this website, click on "Historic Stone Walls in Greenwich".

The event began with a lecture about the variety of walls seen throughout town and ended with a (soggy and fun!) field trip to a GLT preserve for a close up look at stone walls. This event was free to the public, but donations to either sponsoring organization are always welcome.

Family Paddle to Shell & Calves Island

Shell & Calf Island
Join kayakers from the Greenwich Land Trust, Calf Island Conservancy and Indian Harbor Yacht Club for a not-to-be missed exploratory excursion to the beautiful Shell and Calves Islands. This is a great opportunity for families to learn from local professionals about coastal ecology and the history of these fascinating islands. Special thanks to Calf Island Conservancy for partnering with the GLT on this event!

Event fees (required to book a reservation) include lunch and are $50 per family and $25 for individuals. Information about renting 1 and 2-person kayaks will be provided when an RSVP is received. Kayak rental fees are not included in event fees.

Reservations are required for this popular excursion and there are only a FEW SPACES LEFT.
